Someone slammed their car door into your side mirror in a parking garage – and now you have scratches… Unfortunately, in this case, you’ll have to cover the damage yourself if you don’t have parking damage insurance. That’s because comprehensive insurance only applies if the responsible person is known. This typically happens in a traffic accident when an accident report is filled out.
This is exactly where parking damage insurance comes into play.
What is parking damage insurance?
At Carvolution, parking damage insurance is an additional coverage option that protects your car from damages while parked. Ideally, anyone who damages a parked car would leave their contact details. Realistically, though, this rarely happens, leaving the car owner to deal with the costs. If the responsible person is unknown, this is rarely covered by comprehensive insurance, which only applies if the person who caused the damage is identified.
Carvolution offers parking damage insurance for a small additional fee. It covers up to two damage cases per year – with no deductible!
When do I need parking damage insurance?
Whether this insurance makes sense for you depends on your daily routine:
- If you frequently park in public places – supermarkets, city centers, or public parking garages are common places where parking damage occurs.
- If you often park in unfamiliar areas – in residential neighborhoods where you know your neighbors, the risk is lower than in public parking spaces.
You might not need parking damage insurance if you primarily park in your own garage or on a private parking space.
Parking damage insurance vs. comprehensive insurance
Every Carvolution all-inclusive subscription includes comprehensive insurance. You can choose how much you pay in case of damage: 250 CHF, 500 CHF, or 1,000 CHF. If you choose 1,000 CHF, you’ll cover this amount in case of damage – regardless of who caused it.
Parking damages of this amount are rare but possible. Without parking damage insurance, you’ll pay 1,000 CHF per damage case. If your car suffers two damages, that’s 2,000 CHF.
That’s why getting parking damage insurance is worth it. It has no deductible, meaning you won’t have to pay a single franc for potential repairs.
What is an alternative to parking damage insurance?
If you don’t see the need for this insurance, Carvolution offers an alternative. You can reduce the deductible of your comprehensive insurance. If you lower it to 250 CHF, for example, two parking damages would cost you a maximum of 500 CHF.
It’s up to you to decide what makes the most sense for you.
A message to all drivers!
Parking damage happens – but taking responsibility should be a given. If you accidentally damage another car:
- Leave your contact details – A note with your phone number or reporting it to the police is the right way to go.
- Note the license plate – If you witness someone damaging a car, you can help.
- Use your liability insurance – That’s exactly what it’s for. Reporting damage should be the norm, not the exception.
With parking damage insurance, you’re well covered – but ideally, everyone should take responsibility.
